I was born and raised on Long Island, New York and then moved to Park City, Utah when I was in high school. I earned my bachelor’s in veterinary technology and master’s in health sciences with a focus on animal parasitology at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. I graduated with my doctorate in veterinary medicine from Midwestern University in 2019. My areas of interest include soft tissue surgery, preventative medicine, and infectious disease. I live with my wife Katie and our two Scottish Terriers, Daphne and Dibbs. In our free time we enjoy camping, golfing, and gardening.
I grew up here in Phoenix from the age of three. After high school, I joined the Navy for six years. I was stationed in South Carolina for two years and served onboard a submarine based out of Pearl Harbor for the remaining four. After that, I came back to Arizona to obtain my bachelors degree at University of Arizona in Tucson, where I met my wife. During school, I was also working full time at an emergency and specialty practice there. I then accepted an offer to attend Midwestern University - College of Veterinary Medicine in Glendale where I graduated in 2019.
Dr. Reid Michaelis was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is a second-generation veterinarian as both his mother and father practice back in New Orleans. He achieved a bachelor’s degree in biology from Louisiana State University. He attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine for three years and did his clinical rotations at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. While at the University of Florida, he rescued his cat, Cheeks, from euthanasia and adopted him to join him on his journey. Cheeks and Reid moved to the Valley in October 2021. Away from work, Dr. Reid enjoys off-roading, lounging with Cheeks, playing tennis, weightlifting, water and snow skiing, and playing the piano.
I am originally a Rhode Island native. I attended Merrimack College (Go Warriors!) in Massachusetts for my Bachelor’s of Science (2015) and Master’s of Public Affairs (2018). Soon after I moved out to sunny Arizona for my Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (2020) from Midwestern University and decided to stay. I started my career in veterinary medicine as a veterinary assistant in high school volunteering at various shelters until I became an animal care technician in local small animal practices in undergrad, and continued that role throughout veterinary school. My fields of interests are soft tissue surgery and dermatology.
Outside of the office, I enjoy baking, traveling, and trying new restaurants with my significant other. We currently own a harlequin cat named Boba who keeps us very entertained at home, but are always on the lookout for new additions to our family. I’m happy to have joined the AMC team and look forward to meeting you and your four-legged babies!
